Chapter 02 · Building businesses
The commercial story moves through retail, licensing, turnarounds, electric mobility, restoration and distribution. The sectors changed; the habit of finding the real opportunity did not.
Teams, margin, supply chains, rights, partners and routes to market turn instinct into evidence—and evidence into action.

The return began in London with office-paper sales. Phil built a team and took brand share. It was unglamorous, measurable and useful: the first proof that a good commercial system can change the result quickly.
RCP Ltd and Trade Paper Ltd turned small-format office paper and designed retail packaging into a market-leading business. Phil forecast decentralised administration, built a 300-person operation moving 20,000 tonnes a year and created retail programmes for Tesco, Dixons, Currys, WHSmith, John Menzies, Globus and Office World.
After selling RCP and Trade Paper, Phil moved through marine products, pharmaceutical retail, design, asbestos services and B&Q supply. Across the assignments, profitability rose, businesses scaled and owners gained an exit route. Along the way he was called in to sell three businesses and buy four.
A classic-car restoration and sales business became a leading source of Mille Miglia-eligible cars, with Mercedes specialism and full event support. Heritage only creates value when engineering, presentation and trust all agree.
Landscape-company growth, an independent McLaren specialist, European supercar tours, image-rights work and continued mentoring all feed the same practice. Today the focus is clear: dealer growth, automotive brand roll-outs, negotiation and immediate commercial improvement.

Vanderhall · homologation
Measurement, evidence, regulation and technical cooperation sit behind the visible launch. The homologation archive shows the unglamorous work that makes commercial ambition possible.

Thorney Motorsport · presentation
Phil presents the proposition directly: product knowledge, market understanding and the confidence to explain the detail without hiding behind a deck.
